The Yon Crochet App Is Here: Now on the App Store and Google Play

Three Yon Crochet app screens on iPhone: a close-up video lesson clip, the Learn page with the character level trail, and the Pattern Trainer

The Yon Crochet app is here. It is free to download on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android, and it puts everything you need to learn amigurumi in one place: close-up video lessons, a pattern trainer, project tracking, crochet tools and a friendly community of makers.

If you already have Yon lessons, there is nothing to set up. Sign in with the same email you use on yoncrochet.com and your lessons are already waiting for you.

Video lessons, round by round

Every lesson is filmed close up and split into short clips, one step at a time, so you always know exactly what comes next. Pause on a stitch, watch it again, then pick up where you left off. That is how the lessons were always meant to be used, and on a phone resting beside your yarn it simply feels natural.

  • Right hand and left hand. Every lesson comes in a left-handed version too, mirrored so the hook and yarn move the way they will in your left hand. You choose your hand once and the app remembers it.
  • Three languages. Captions and voice in English, French and Vietnamese, and the whole app speaks all three.
  • Try before you buy. The Magic Ring and Round 1 of Linda, Pug, Chuck, Spadina and Tango are free to watch, so you can see the teaching style for yourself first.

One lesson, or every lesson

You can buy a single character lesson in the app and keep it for good, in both right and left hand. Or join Yon Plus for every released lesson, new lessons the day they come out, the written pattern for each lesson and unlimited hearts in the pattern trainer.

Living in the US? This is the easiest way to join Yon Plus: the membership is available right inside the app, billed through the App Store or Google Play, and you can manage or cancel it any time in your phone's subscription settings.

Learn to read patterns with the Pattern Trainer

Crochet is really two skills: making stitches, and reading what a pattern is asking for. Video teaches the first. The Pattern Trainer teaches the second, in small daily lessons taught by the Yon characters, so lines like Rnd 3. [sc, inc] x 6 (18) stop looking like code and start reading like a sentence. It is free in the app. If you want the bigger picture of how the two skills fit together, our guide on how to learn crochet online walks through the whole path.

Projects that keep your place

Every lesson you start becomes a project with its own row counter, notes, photos and yarn, so you can put it down mid-round and come back days later without guessing where you were. You can keep your own patterns in the app too, as a PDF, photos or plain text.

Crochet tools in your pocket

The app carries the tools you reach for mid-project:

  • A row counter
  • Increase and decrease spacing, so circles stay round
  • Stitch and yarn calculators
  • Hook sizes and US and UK abbreviations
  • A unit converter and colour palettes

On a computer? The same calculators are on the website as our free crochet tools, with no sign-up needed.

A kind community

Share what you make, ask for help when a round goes wrong and cheer other makers on. Seeing someone else's finished Linda or Tango is often the push you need to finish your own. Report and block are always one tap away, so it stays a friendly place for beginners.

Little rewards that keep you going

Daily nudges, streaks, badges and coins make it easier to crochet a little most days, which is the real secret to getting better. Coins are worth real money off (100 coins = $1), and you can spend them in the app on lessons, on days of Yon Plus and on kits.

How to get started

  1. Download Yon Crochet from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign in with your email. If you have bought Yon lessons before, use the same email and they appear straight away.
  3. Pick your hand, then watch a free first round or start the lesson you already own.

Brand new to crochet? Start with a beginner crochet kit: it has everything for your first character, and the app walks you through it stitch by stitch. Questions about lessons, kits or coins are answered in our FAQ.

See screenshots and every feature on the Yon Crochet app page, then download it and make your first round tonight. We cannot wait to see what you make.
