How to use it

  1. Pick a color, type a color code, or tap one of the Yon Yarn shades to start from it.
  2. Look through the four sets. The word under each color says how to use it: the base, the opposite, a neighbour.
  3. Tap a yarn name to see that shade.

Choosing colors for amigurumi

Most characters look best with one main color, one or two supporting colors and a small pop of contrast. Complementary colors sit opposite each other on the color wheel and make small details stand out: a nose, a bow, cheeks. Analogous colors sit side by side and blend calmly. Triadic sets are playful and balanced. Monochrome uses one color in lighter and darker shades for gentle shading.

Screens show colors differently from yarn, so treat each match as a starting point and look at the yarn in daylight before you buy.

Questions crocheters ask

What colors go well together in crochet?

Start with one main color, then add its complementary color for small details, or its neighbours for a soft blend. Save the brightest color for the smallest parts.

How do I choose yarn colors for a blanket?

Pick three to five colors: a main color for most rows and two or three accents. An analogous set makes a calm blanket; complementary accents make stripes pop.

Are the yarn matches exact?

They are the closest Yon Yarn shade by a standard color difference measure (CIEDE2000). Screens and dye lots vary, so check the yarn in daylight.
