Intermediate crochet: texture, colour and clean finishing
Made a character or two? These add the techniques that separate a neat plushie from a homemade looking one.
What you will learn here
- Front and back loops only. Working into one loop instead of both is a small change with a large result. It is what turns a smooth ball into something with surface and shadow.
- Clean colour changes. The join between two colours wants to show, and once it does every round after it draws the eye. These lessons spend their time on the join itself.
- Taller stitches. Half double and double crochet, and what stitch height does to a curve.
- Bubble stitch. Worked as a cluster and closed, so it pushes out from the fabric rather than lying flat.
- Assembly. A plushie is usually let down at the joins rather than in the rounds. Placement, tension, and finishing a join so it holds and disappears.
