Crochet pricing calculator

Selling what you make? Add up the materials, pay yourself for your time, add a markup, and let the calculator put the platform fee on top so it doesn't come out of your pay. You also get a wholesale price for selling to shops.

How to use it

  1. Type what the yarn, safety eyes, stuffing and other materials cost for one piece.
  2. Type how long it took and the hourly rate you want to earn.
  3. Add a markup (the profit on top of your wage) and the fee your platform or card reader takes.
  4. Read the selling price, what you keep, and the breakdown underneath.

A fair formula for handmade prices

Materials plus your time is the cost to make a piece. Add your markup to get what you keep. Then divide by one minus the fee, so the fee is paid out of the buyer's price and not out of your hourly rate. Shops usually pay half the selling price, so check that wholesale still covers your costs before you sell to one.

Amigurumi takes time: even a small character can take several hours. If the price feels high, look at working faster rather than for less.

Questions crocheters ask

How do I price crochet items?

Add the cost of materials and your time at an hourly rate, add a markup for profit, then add the selling fee on top. The calculator does this and shows each part.

What hourly rate should I charge for crochet?

Many makers start at their local minimum wage and raise it as they get faster. A rate below that usually means the work is underpriced.

How do Etsy fees affect my price?

Fees are a percentage of the selling price. Type the total percentage (listing, transaction and payment fees together) and the calculator raises the price so you still keep what you planned.

What is a wholesale price for crochet?

Shops usually pay about half the retail price. If half your price doesn't cover materials and time, raise your markup before selling wholesale.
