How to use it
- Type what you are making, for example Body or Left ear, so you know which count this is.
- Tap +1 round each time you finish a round (or row). The stitch count starts again at 0 for the new round.
- Use +1 stitch to count inside a long round, or to check a round against the number in brackets at the end of the pattern line.
- Type how many rounds the part has and the bar shows how far along you are.
- Tick Keep my screen on so your phone doesn't lock while your hands are busy.
Why counting rounds matters in amigurumi
Amigurumi is worked in a spiral: there is no seam or turning chain to show where one round ends and the next begins. Lose count and a piece grows a round too long, or the increases land in the wrong place and the shape goes lopsided. Counting every round, and checking the stitch total in brackets, is how you keep a shape even.
Pair the counter with a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Move the marker up every time you reach it, and tap +1 round as you do.
Questions crocheters ask
How do I count rounds in crochet without losing my place?
Put a stitch marker in the first stitch of the round and move it up each time you come back to it, then tap +1 round. The marker shows where the round ends; the counter remembers how many you have done, even if you put your work down for a week.
Does this row counter save my count?
Yes, on this device. The count, the part name and the goal stay in your browser until you tap Start over. To keep a counter for every project, use the Yon Crochet app.
What is the difference between a row and a round?
A row is worked back and forth and you turn at the end. A round is worked in a circle, the way most amigurumi is made. The counter counts either: one tap per row or per round.
Can I use the counter on a computer?
Yes. Press the space bar or the up arrow to add a round, the down arrow to take one off, and S to add a stitch.
